A bit of an update!

Once again, I’ve been quiet on posting things on social media thanks to being busy and hopefully this blog will address that and what I have got coming up. Admittedly, I have had a bit of a hobby slump over the past few months and this has affected what I’ve been doing. I started off the year with lots of good intentions with some blog posts and playing different games each month but I needed to get some extra work as I’ve got things coming up this year that I need money for. This meant that my time on Sundays and school holidays has become a bit more limited for painting and playing games as I needed to get some overtime in the second job.

Decisions, decisions!

I had been planning for a while to go to GenCon in July this year. I had booked the time off and planned what I was going to do etc. but with the current state of things in the US, I have decided to give it a miss this year. Instead, I have decided that rather than go to the second biggest gaming convention, I would go to the largest gaming convention in Essen. Another factor in this decision is financial. GenCon was going to cost a lot and even with all the overtime and saving I could do, I wasn’t going to have much to spend there. Essen is going to cost around half the amount that GenCon would as the flight would be shorter and the hotel would cost a lot less too. I have already booked my hotel for Essen  so it’s just flights, tickets and spending money that I need to sort out now. I still have every intention of going to GenCon but not until things calm down.

What have I been doing?

I have been painting whenever I get the chance and over the past few weeks I’ve managed to finish around twenty miniatures and done a little work on The Lion’s base. That brings the total amount of miniatures painted this year to 90 but also made a huge dent in my unpainted list. This will go up again very soon with UK Games Expo looming and I always come away with some new minis.

There has been some gaming but not as much as I would’ve liked. We’ve had some D&D and one of the nights we started the Scythe Rise of Fenris campaign which ended up being until 1:30 in the morning (on a school night too, oops)! I’ve only managed one solo game which was Autobahn a few weeks ago. It was a good game and took a while to get the rules down but was really enjoyable.

What am I going to do next?

I’ve decided I am going to dedicate some of my time during the week for dedicated hobby activities. Tuesday nights are going to be used for painting or a quick solo game as well as posting anything I’ve been up to or things I’ve seen that have caught my interest. I will try and write some blogs I’ve been meaning to get done in this time too. Sundays will be for painting and playing some bigger solo games. There are so many games I still want to get to the table again or for the first time (I’m looking at you HeroQuest) so hopefully I will be able to get to do that. The summer holidays are looming too which means I will have a little more time for painting and playing. I started writing a Starfinder One Shot a while ago and would really like to get that finished and played at some point. Once that is done, I have the Alien and Arkham Horror RPGs to look at and maybe write some one shots or campaigns for them.

What’s coming up?

By the time you read this I will be either going to, at or been to UK Games Expo. Yes it’s that time of year again where I look at and try lots of new games, buy a silly amount of new things to live on my shelves but overall have a great time. Once again, I’m going with friends so it won’t be as daunting trying to get demos of new games and also they will be my conscience when it comes to buying things! Of course there will be many updates during the two days I am there and post show too with all that I have acquired and done.

Then it’s on to Essen in October! I am really looking forward to this one and going abroad on my own for the first time. There will be lots of new games to play or demo and I will be able to ship anything it get back home too. There’s also two smaller gaming conventions in Manchester in July and August which I may go to just to see what’s going on.

So that’s an update of what’s been going on. I will write and post more. I will paint and play more. I will get back to the hobby I love and enjoy!
