We’ve made it to March so thought I’d give an update of what things I’ve been getting up to and what’s coming up in the future. I’m only really doing any gaming related bits at the weekend at the minute due to working Monday to Friday (apart from D&D on Thursdays) which is why I’m quieter then but that will hopefully improve soon.
Obviously, we can’t all meet up for gaming sessions just yet but there’s been plenty going on in my gaming groups. We’ve just started a new campaign for D&D on Thursday nights which is as comical as ever with crazy plans involving turning up to a party with a bomb that we stole (I’ll let you know how that turns out). The dice rolls haven’t always been on our side but we’re not dead yet. It’s good to get back into regular gaming even if it is over Zoom but that’s the way forward for the next couple of months. I’ve also started a Starfinder campaign and hopefully be carrying that on soon when we can all get the same time free. Sadly, I’ve had to give up on playing Star Wars Edge of the Empire on a Tuesday night as I have a busy day on Wednesdays and need an earlyish night.

What else have I been playing?
I’ve managed to play a few solo games at the weekends like Arkham Horror: The Card Game and just going through a Descent: Journeys in the Dark campaign using the Road to Legend app. Descent is one of my favourite dungeon crawlers because it it so simple to play and the decisions you make can affect the rest of the campaign. Out of the four scenarios I’ve played, I’ve only completed one but I keep changing my strategy to adapt to the scenario which doesn’t always work and I end up getting knocked out too many times. As for Arkham Horror, I need to sit down and build some new decks using some other investigators so I can attempt the Dunwich Legacy campaign when I get the final three Mythos packs. I’ve also made a return to Star Wars CCG by taking part in an online league. I’m not doing brilliantly but I never do in these tournaments but I play it because I’ve always had so much fun playing it. I’ve reconnected with some people I used to play with regularly and I may make a return to the tournament scene when we can play face to face again. Even though I haven’t played it for a while, I remembered the rules and what I need to do (probably because I’ve been playing the game for over twenty years).

Paint, paint, paint!
I have managed to get a bit of painting done so far this year and have finished painting fifty miniatures which is a good portion of my planned target of over two hundred. I’ve almost painted all the Legion models and some undead for my WFB/Runewars army, still got a long way to go though. I’ve started working on the Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion miniatures but as there are only four it shouldn’t take too long to complete. I haven’t based anything yet but I think a mass basing session will be needed so the textured paint doesn’t dry out before I have another basing session.

What’s on the horizon?
I have a new game coming very soon that I’m very excited to play as it’s been on my wish list for a while now. It also has miniatures to paint so will be working on those too. Stay tuned for updates on that. There’s some new Adeptus Titanicus bits coming out including a new Titan which may have to be acquired for Legio Gryphonicus. I can’t forget about the next KeyForge expansion, Dark Tidings, which should be hitting the shelves soon. I might have a sort out of my terrain to see if I need to build anymore for the boards I have. I do want to build some more winter/snow terrain at some point to finish that project then it’s on to the forest board. I want to try and get my undead army finished before the summer holidays and get the Scythe characters painted too. Hopefully, playing some games in person will be on the cards as I have a few new games I’m looking forward to playing with real people and not on my own.

Finally, UK Games Expo!
In 2019, I was fortunate to be part of the KeyForge Vault Tour team working alongside the Organised Play Team from Fantasy Flight Games at the UK Games Expo. It was such a good experience although very tiring and I got to experience a massive games convention.I was invited back to work with them last year but COVID put a stop to that. I’m unsure if the Vault Tour is running this year but even if it isn’t I still plan on attending UKGE. I made the decision to go for the weekend but travel there each day by train which is far cheaper than booking a hotel for three nights (plus I can carry more back). Thankfully, it’s in the summer holidays this year so if I am working the Vault Tour I won’t be in work the next day plus I can enjoy my new acquisitions of which there will be a few…
